Few Warhammer characters have known a more troubled history as Archaon The Everchosen. From a rather pathetic model in de 1990-ies, to one of the most impressive mounted models Gw has ever produced.
But it is not the model that is troubling out is the way that his background sorry has been changed, wiped out and rewritten. Especially the events during the ‘Storm of Chaos’ campaign are a sad example of this policy.
- First it seems unlikely that the Orc Warlord Grimgor would have saved Archaon in man to man combat.
- Secondly, after losing an entire war Archaon should have been changed into a mindless Chaos spawn.
- And finally, Archaon’s lost campaign against all that is good (and also not so good) was wiped out of existence Erth a single pen strike.
There is very good news though, and that is the excellent miniature Games Workshop made as a limited edition model for Gamesday participants. This huge figurine is both majestic and menacing at the same time. And the combination of flat surfaces and textured fabrics and fur make Archaon on foot a pleasure to paint. It’s a shame I sold this model, but fortunately I got a spare one laying around somewhere… If I only knew where.
